October 23rd, 2008Humming Bird Tattoo?

Hey everyone,
I've been thinking about getting a medium sized hummingbird tattoo on my left shoulder blade for a while now. The only problem is, is that I can't find the right picture that shows what I want. I really want this tattoo to be as realistic as possible & just … beautiful I guess. I want the tail and the wings to looks very feathery and realistic. It represents something important to me.

#1 has some great pics. just tell the artist you want it realistic looking. not outlined.
it will make it look more natural

this one is more real looking than most others i have seen. http://images.search.yahoo.com/images/view?back=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.com%2Fsearch%2Fimages%3Fp%3Dhummingbird%2Btattoo%26ei%3DUTF-8%26fr%3Dyfp-t-501%26xargs%3D0%26pstart%3D1%26b%3D21%26ni%3D20&w=400&h=563&imgurl=www.tattoocityskinart.com%2Fimages%2FMonica%2Fhummingbird.jpg&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tattoocityskinart.com%2FMonicaHenkGuestAppearance.htm&size=42.3kB&name=hummingbird.jpg&p=hummingbird+tattoo&type=JPG&oid=7efb5e7527a1df22&no=35&tt=146&sigr=11uueah4c&sigi=11npsltpa&sigb=13jhl7kqimost artists are probly not asked to put a lot of detail in the others online so we can't find exactly what you want.

i agree that you should get a few pics of ones you like and bring them to the artist to have them drawn with as much detail as possible

oh this would make a great tattoo http://www.copperfield.org/hummingbird.jpg

Also how long would it take? Can the artist finish it in one go?

Why don't you ask the artist all these questions?

As the wife of a tattoo artist, I know that it really depends on what kind of bird you use. Eagles generally represent freedom. Doves, peace. etc. Most birds are feminine. There are a lot of good tattoo sites that break down the general meaning of each bird so you can choose the one that best defines you.

For the most part, the swallow is a symbol of good luck and is a favorite BIRD in traditional tattoo design, typically done in blue or red and also commonly appearing in pairs. The earliest source of this symbolism likely lies in the bird's association with the coming of spring. The swallow is also associated with homecoming and resurrection, likely attributes derived from its natural behavior. It is not uncommon to see the swallow tattoo accompanied by NAUTICAL STARS, another traditional or old-school tattoo as- sociated with homecoming. In addition, early sailors received a swallow tattooed on each side of the chest to show that they had travelled five thousand miles. The chest placement for two swallows remains a popular one today.

In ancient thailand warriors were tattooed with designs of animals belived to hold magical powers that protected them in battle.

Warriors belived the tattoos helped them enter a trance and invoke the powers of the animals tattoed on their skin.

Sak yant is a tradition of Thailand Buddhism, also know as spiritual magic tattoos. Yants are mantras that are formed by LPs many many years ago which are known to provide protection against bodily harm, sickness, metta, wealth, preventing charms against you and many more. Different yants serves a different purpose and different people sak for different reasons as well. The are many forms of yants that can be widely seen, like Phayants, yants that are drawn on cloths and blessed by monks to be hung at home or cars to provide blessings and protection, etc, Yants drawn by hands with a white substance on people’s doors, cars or even items belonging to the believer. Another very commonly seen Yant would be Takruts, which are pieces of metal sheets, like copper, silver or gold and inscribed on it with sharp objects like needles. Its then rolled into a stick to be carried around as a keychain, hung in the pocket or worn around the waist. Sak yant is just another form of wearing a yant with you, but having it permanently on your skin. Yants are not only mantras, some are Himapants, which are animals like Suea (Tigers), Hanuman (Monkey), Ling Long (Little Monkeys), Garuda (Bird), Salika(Bird), Ganesha (Elephant God) and Devas, etc. Each different animal will have its different purposes.

October 11th, 2008A hieroglyphic bird tattoo?

so I really want a simple outline of a bird, and I cant draw and have yet to find a picture online of what i want. I imagine a bird in flight, and in like a simple style like a heiroglyph–if i spelled that correctly. Do you kinda get what I'm saying? Any ideas? Am I crazy?

i can draw. and actually that sounds like a pretty neat idea. but unless you were to go into more detail i think it would be hard to illustrate exactly what youre thinking. my advice is to find someone you know that can draw or try to draw yourself an outline of your idea. or take that other persons advice. that would work too

I'm intending to get a bird tattoo - specifically a swallow. Basically I just want to know if there's any meaning I should be aware of; you know, white supremacy, satan worship, anything like that. I've Googled it and didn't find anything to worry about, but I just wanted to put it out there to check. Cheers.

There are different meanings to tattoos in the prison system and the military.

A Blue bird or swallow has been associated with sailors and Navy.

Have ran across a couple of people with bluebird tattoos and one with what looked like a blue scissor-tail and was told it was prison ink symbol for surviving past drug addictions and looking to a brighter future. Also heard and been told can mean Aryan Brotherhood. (last source listed has mention of this at bottom of page under guy tattooed with Aryan Brotherhood as titled and tattoos listed).

In England and overseas can have different meanings…have friend who has one and he said to him it is symbol that he's a hard bloke (tough guy).

Bluebirds also symbolize Happiness and fulfillment.

So in reality, a tattoo of any sort depends on the person getting it and their reasons. It doesn't have to mean anything to anyone else (or even if does…who cares), as long it is what you want…do it for you.

Good Luck!
