February 2nd, 2009Chinese Tattoo confirmation?

I want to get a tattoo that represents family in Chinese, I had a calligrapher design this for me : http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y186/psuperman112/family-fluidv.gif

Can someone confirm for me that it says family before I get it tattooed?

Yes, i agree with them too, only the first character ?"jia" is better and more suitable. The combined two characters ??"jia ting" means more about household and homeware.

But there are many other stylised and artistic chinese fonts you can choose from. The chinese fonts that you showed me is the more common style. I have actually done some typing and uploaded an image with more fonts options of the letter ?"jia" for you. Take a look , You may choose the one you like best for your tattoo.

You can tell that all of them are the same character , but in different forms of writting, Except the last 2 fonts in the bottom left, they look different from the others because they are very ancient chinese fonts from the ancient chinese emperor days thousands years ago. These kind of ancient fonts are not used for writting in mordern days anymore, but some people like to use them in art work and tattoos, as they are more mysteriously unique and meaningful.
i hope that my answear is helpful, good luck!

Chinese Tattoo is now in the top 5 best love design of people for their tattoo. Ever thought about it? Most people with tattoo wear tattoos that are somehow related or similar idea with a the Chinese. The rich culture and tradition of Chinese makes it more recognizeable and appreciate by their neighboring countries as well.

Does anyone know a site where I can translate English words into chinese/japanese symbols?

Thanks!

I would suggest that you not get a tattoo in a language you can't read.

Those translation sites are notorious for being not quite correct. It is so obvious that teachers at my school could tell when you used it, since the syntax is so off, and in such an obvious way.

Chinese and Japanese also don't form words or sentences in the same way English does, which makes an already difficult guess-work job even worse.

Finally, do you know how difficult it is for even a skilled tattoo artist to tattoo text well? To make the letters straight, the same size, etc? It's quite hard.

Now imagine trying to do that for a language you can't even read. A language that doesn't even have a letter system.

I studied Japanese calligraphy for a while, and let me tell you, the tattoos on most Americans are so bad they are nearly unintelligable in almost all cases.

Please reconsider.

I would like to get a chinese tattoo of the words true love i was wondering if this actually means true love?

http://z.about.com/d/chineseculture/1/0/b/O/truelove.gif

and what are some other ideas i can use? instead of true love? maybe just love?

It does mean true love… but literally… the first character means TRUE, and the second means LOVE… and that isn’t something that would actually be said in chinese, or any asiatic language for that matter. The best way to do it, would be to get just the second… LOVE character.
But if you want something else… I suggest a back piece, of a Geisha, cuz thats what I have ;-)
