The best way to do that is to go to few tattoo shops and shop around!

pricing varies from shop to shop, but generally the more color, and the larger the tattoo…the more expensive. i've got a tattoo about the size of my hand on my shoulder, and it cost about $450 because there is so much color in it.

That all depends on where you live, where you go, how much ink, or what colors they use, etc, etc. There are a lot of different factors. I suggest you ask your family/friends for recommendations on where to go, and then talk to the artists.

everywhere is different, one shop told me mine would be £30 and another said £15 for exactly the same tattoo, you need to go to shops and ask

This isn't a direct answer to your question, but a word of warning: RESEARCH! Prices vary tremendously (as you can tell from the answers thus far), but so does the quality of work. This is going to be with you for the rest of your life, so you should ask people which places near you are the best. Also, you should actually visit the tattoo shop ahead of time and browse through the artist's work. If they don't have a book/album/something with pics of their work, you should be nervous. Ask around and make sure the place you are going does good work and has a good rep. It's much better to get an expensive tat once than to get a cheap (crappy) one, and then have to get an expensive one anyway to cover it up. Btw, I pay $150 an hour where I go, plus $5 for each needle, but again, it varys tremendously.
